So I’m not usually a fan of graffiti at all, even when it can be described as ‘artsy’ compared to the usual spray paint scribbles. But I changed my mind here in the student quarter of Limassol where a touch of vibrant colour has been added to every available surface. A festival is held every year to re-paint everything and it seems like a great idea to brighten up some of the otherwise more dilapidated areas. It’s just so fun to turn around every corner and not know what to expect! Even bollards, scaffolding and boarded up houses have been transformed.
Limassol is an awesome city that I would love to live in. It just has a great vibe about it with plenty of quirky bars and lots of events going on. We went to a medieval festival at the Castle and saw a DJ set up some decks and lights in an abandoned shop! Plus the Cypriots themselves are so friendly and welcome you into their community so willingly – being invited to have coffee with some shopkeepers and then being introduced to their whole family out the back is quite an experience!
A new road runs alongside the city and the beach which is easy to navigate. Lined with tall palm trees it seems like something out of GTA (particularly with the addition of erratic Cypriot driving…!)
