About

Hi! My name is Laura Aitken-Burt – a historian and archaeologist based in London researching and writing for broadcast and print media.

Since studying Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Oxford, I have had a varied career centred on my enthusiasm for uncovering stories about cultures and objects from around the world.

What I do

As an experienced educator and freelancer, I specialise in bringing interesting and overlooked historical narratives to the wider public sphere through research, writing, editing, speaking and media. I enjoy presenting and communicating my ideas to different audiences – I am a published author of five books on global history from the ancient world to the modern era and have multiple broadcast media credits as well as archaeological fieldwork and museum experience.

LAB Historical Consultancy is my freelance consulting service. As an efficient and proactive independent freelancer, I am a fast learner and keen researcher with much experience in fact checking and transforming this into engaging content and copy for a wide range of mediums – from documentary scripts and popular magazine articles to academic books and teaching resources.

The historical nature of the productions and institutions I have worked for give a particularly varied outlook, knowledge and contact base for research and the ability to bring creativity based on my own expertise and experiences. Alongside writing, I particularly like presenting my research and ideas through interviews, lectures and panel discussions. I am an elected postgraduate member of the Royal Historical Society and regularly attend a range of international conferences.

This website finally collates a multitude of links and articles of my work and was created to give people an easier way to get in touch to collaborate on historical debates and freelance projects.
